A large database containing the heights of recruits for the 1924 cohort allows us to review the regional dimensions of Argentina's biological welfare, in particular the idea that concentration of resources in Buenos Aires and the Pampa region left the interior provinces economically backward and physiologically weak. The findings confirm that very large differences in stature separated recruits of the Pampa region from those of the Northwest and Northeast in the 1920s. Estimates suggest that transportation improvements, urbanization, and basic literacy had a positive impact on the height of Argentines. In turn, districts with peasant economies, minifundia, high proportion of non-owners, and greater disease risk were associated with lower-than-average heights. Mean stature also correlated with the type of agrarian production: people living in cereal areas were generally taller than people coming from districts producing sugar or other non-export goods. Data on average height shows greater variability across space than any other data on income or wages, and thus serves to uncover this hidden dimension -the regional- of welfare

Indexación: Web of ScienceTheoretical reactivity indices based on the conceptual Density Functional Theory (DFT) have become a powerful tool for the semiquantitative study of organic reactivity. A large number of reactivity indices have been proposed in the literature. Herein, global quantities like the electronic chemical potential μ, the electrophilicity ω and the nucleophilicity N indices, and local condensed indices like the electrophilic and nucleophilic Parr functions, as the most relevant indices for the study of organic reactivity, are discussed.http://www.mdpi.com/1420-3049/21/6/74

The present work is the answer to the criticisms made by Colom and Andres-Pueyo (2010) to an earlier work by Fernández-Ríos (2007). The conclusion is the acceptance of the controversy, and the rejection of the criticism. I reiterate that the persepctive of intelligence perspective defended by Colom and Andres-Pueyo is on one hand, reductionist and acontextual, and other, individually and socially pervers

AND OBJECTIVES: Burns carry a high risk of infection and chronic wounds should be considered colonised if not already infected. Silver is a well-known antimicrobial but there is controversy regarding its use due to it being potentially toxic both locally and systemically. This study aims to analyze the convenience of its use. METHOD: Narrative review searching through 5 databases (PUBMED, CINAHL, SCIELO, CUIDEN and VHL). This search resulted in 44 articles, from which 21 were selected for study. RESULTS: 16 articles dealt with burns and 5 with chronic wounds, assessing on all of them the use of silver. The typology of these articles consisted of clinical trials (11), experimental study (1), observational studies (7) and systematic reviews (2). DISCUSSION: In burn treatments silver sulfadiazine (SSD) has been the universal treatment for long, but currently other antiseptics exist which improve healing time and infection control. In chronic wounds, silver dressings are effective in managing colonisation and infection. No adverse effects of interest have been identified in the clinical use of silver. CONCLUSSIONS: SSD should not be used in burn treatments. Currently the antiseptic which provides the highest degree of evidence of effectiveness in burns is honey. Silver dressings should be the first choice for treatment in chronic wounds until the infection is removed. SSD should not be used in burns treatment. Currently the antiseptic that provides greater evidence of efficacy in burns is honey. Silver dressings are the first choice of treatment in chronic wounds until the infection is eliminated

Neil Sloane showed that the problem of determine the maximum size of a binary code of constant weight 2 that can correct a single adjacent transposition is equivalent to finding the packing number of a certain graph. In this paper we solve this open problem by finding the packing number of the double vertex graph (2-token graph) of a path graph. This double vertex graph is isomorphic to the Sloane's graph. Our solution implies a conjecture of Rob Pratt about the ordinary generating function of sequence A085680.Comment: 21 pages, 7 figures. V2: 22 pages, more figures added. Killing to save? The bomb's plan case

This paper exhibits the moral discussion of killing innocent people to save others from a human dignity analysis. The document develops the positions that specify or question whether or not the potential use of innocent lives to save others in the event of terrorists intending to carry out an airplane like 11- S is justified. The problem is to shoot down or not the airplane. The solutions are hanged on the balance of a dilemma to elucidate: Can be Caifás or Pilate? This is: kill one to save all or kill everyone to miss the problem (wash our hands from it). There is a possible solution based on the rule “of the one who has the most salvation’s chances” (the one that has the more possibilities to be save, rescue or to live). It’s unavoidable to demolish the airplane (it’s impossible to avoid), if and only if, the group A has less chances than group B to live; and therefore group A are the innocent people that has the least lives chances to be saved and they have not any other choice than stopping the terrorist by implements (useful) their lives to leave (let being an instrument, abandon oneself,) being an instrument submit to the manipulation of them to kill othersPublicad
